"Mike and Alan fixed our doors so that
they open, close and lock with no
effort. I would recommend JED as the

STEAMY WINDOWS
In the trade we say that the
double glazed sealed unit has
'broken down'. This means that
the perimeter edge seal has lost
it's integrity and that it is letting in
moisture somewhere. The
moisture itself is hard to spot at
first, sometimes becoming only
visible as the sun or another heat
source 'draws' the moisture up.
Typically the moisture will be
drawn in as the atmospheric
pressure changes, and it will build
up eventually condensing into
water inside the sealed unit. The
double glazed unit can be
replaced without the cost of
replacing the frame, and at that
stage it is a good option to
upgrade to a high energy glass
such as Pilkington K glass or a gas
filled unit which will provide a
higher insulation benefit to the
customer.
WINDOW LOCK
REPAIR
The locking of the older "cockspur "
handle is mainly provided by a
simple key, however new handles
have a conventional key to lock
which look more stylish and
modern. The espagnolete
mechanism is operated by a handle
usually fitted with a push button to
lock or unlock, backed up with a
built in key lock for extra security.
However the mechanism which is
concealed within the edge of the
frame will wear with age making
locking the window more difficult
or even impossible. We carry these
locking mechanisms in stock and
replacement will return the window
to its original condition.
HIGH QUALITY
WINDOW REPAIRS IN
PITY ME
J.E.D are commited to extending
the life of your existing
windows,doors and conservatories
by replacing the worn or damaged
components such as locks handles
glass and hinges. When the cost of
replacing these components
makes the repair to the window
uneconomical, we can replace the
window with a new up to date
window with all the latest
insulation and security benefits.
WINDOW HINGE
REPAIR
Both aluminium and PVCu
window frames with opening
window sash use stainless steel
friction hinges. These hinges
allow the sash to open to various
positions of ventilation. However
due to wear and tear the hinges
become floppy and dont locate
correctly, causing draughts and
difficulty when operating the
handle to close the window.
Replacing the hinges will correct
the problem.
WINDOW HANDLE
REPAIR
Older Aluminium and PVCu
windows are often fitted with
"cockspur handles", a simple device
with no concealed workings which
lock against a plastic pressure pad.
These were slowly replaced with
"espagnolete handles where the
mechanism is concealed within the
edge of the window frame,
providing a number of locking
points depending on the size of
window. New handles will not only
provide better security but will also
make the window look more up to
date and stylish, available in
various colours and finishes.
CONDENSATION
Condensation on the room side of a
double glazed window is generally
caused by poor ventilation which in
turn is an indication that the air in
the room has a high moisture
content. We all strive to make our
homes better insulated against
draughts and because of this our
rooms are becoming like sealed
boxes, this in turn means that moist
air from cooking, bathing, or just
breathing is trapped within the
room. The coldest point in a room
will usually be the glass, the moist
air will condense onto the glass and
we can plainly see it. We can of
course improve this with double
glazed units and high energy glass.
However if we do not reduce the
amount of moisture in the air, the
condensation will manifest itself in
other places like behind wardrobes
and cupboards, causing decoration
problems. By using a dehumidifier in
conjunction with the double glazing
you will reduce the amount of
moisture in the room so improving
the air quality and also increase the
effectiveness of the double glazing.
"Highly recommended. J.E.D, brilliant
service, with years of experience."
